What is family dentistry?
Family dentistry allows patients to obtain dental care for the entire family in one location. City Dental Clinic has experience with patients of all ages and ensures every patient receives comprehensive and compassionate dental care in a welcoming environment. In addition to caring for adults of all ages, the practice offers pediatric dentistry for children.
The team provides a broad scope of care in general dentistry as well as cosmetic and restorative dentistry services. For patient convenience and safety, they offer digital X-rays that are quick and easy with much less radiation exposure than traditional dental X-rays.
Scheduling routine dental checkups and dental cleanings are the best way to ensure the oral health of your family. For optimal oral health, it is recommended that you see your dentist at City Dental Clinic twice each year. Having regular checkups allows us to clean and examine your teeth, and helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss.
If you have tooth pain or a dental emergency, like a knocked-out tooth, call the office for an emergency appointment.
What happens at a routine dental visit?
A checkup with your dentist consists of three parts: a dental cleaning, an oral examination, and patient education. First, your teeth are thoroughly cleaned to remove plaque and tartar buildup, then they’re flossed and polished.
During the oral exam, your dentist checks for cavities and tooth decay and signs of gum disease. Digital X-rays are sometimes performed to get a closer look at your oral health and determine if you require fillings or more extensive dental care.
Before you go, your dentist answers your questions and if necessary, teaches you or your child the proper way to clean and care for your teeth to ensure you have the knowledge necessary to prevent future dental problems.
How are decayed teeth treated?
Fillings are used to repair teeth that have cavities. The dentist first removes the decayed areas of the tooth with special tools, and after cleaning the area, uses a filling material to restore the structure of the damaged tooth.
If a decayed or broken tooth cannot be saved with a filling or other means, your dentist may recommend a tooth extraction to fully remove the tooth from your mouth. Tooth extractions are performed as a last resort when no other restorative dentistry procedures would save the tooth.
When wisdom teeth are impacted, many patients require wisdom teeth removal to prevent damage to their other teeth, to relieve pain, or to improve oral hygiene.
Can a family dentist provide sleep apnea treatment?
In addition to regular cleanings and oral exams, the dentists at Spectrum Dental Care offer sleep apnea treatment. Your dentist customizes an oral appliance that you wear when you sleep to help maintain an open, unobstructed airway and reduce sleep apnea symptoms.
